Earthquake of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale was recorded in Karpathos on the morning of Wednesday (24/06). It was also felt in Kasos.

An earthquake of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale occurred at 11:25 on Wednesday morning (24/06) on the island of Karpathos, and it was strongly felt on the island of Kasos as well.
According to the revised solution of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the seismic tremor was recorded 7 kilometers south of Karpathos and had a focal depth of 15.9 kilometers.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
As the mayor of Kasos, Michalis Erotokritos, stated to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), citing communication with Professor Efthymios Lekkas, the epicenter is not linked to the fault that has in the past produced large earthquakes, but is a phenomenon of local scale.
The mayor also noted that the tremor was accompanied by a strong rumbling sound and forced residents to go outside; however, so far no damage has been reported on the island.
