The trial of 25-year-old Eirini Mourtzoukou begins today, Friday, November 6, at the Mixed Jury Court of Patras, in connection with the deaths of three infants.

According to patrisnews.gr, Mourtzoukou has been held at Eleonas Prison since last September, following her transfer from Korydallos Prison. The proceedings beginning today concern the murders of the three infants, which she has already confessed to committing.

Police are expected to implement heightened security measures inside and outside the Patras Courthouse to ensure that the trial proceeds smoothly. The Achaia Council of Misdemeanour Judges fully adopted the prosecutor’s recommendation and issued an indictment referring the 25-year-old defendant to trial.

In her recommendation, the prosecutor describes Mourtzoukou as an “organised, highly calculating, violent, merciless, ruthless and extremely dangerous individual”. According to the reasoning set out in the document, the 25-year-old “took pleasure in having her victims at her mercy, without feeling any guilt”. The defence’s claim of diminished criminal responsibility was also rejected in its entirety.

The ruling issued by the Achaia Council of Misdemeanour Judges concerns a series of serious incidents dating back to 2020:

– Christmas 2020: Attempted murder of her former partner.
– February 4, 2021: Death of the six-month-old baby of her friend, Katerina.
– June 19, 2022: Death of her first child, aged 19 days.
– October 17, 2023: Death of her two-month-old daughter, Maria-Frederiki.
The prosecutor’s recommendation also states that Mourtzoukou’s behaviour provides no indication that she forms meaningful emotional bonds with the people around her.
