The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is putting an end to the “trade” in receipts at petrol stations, as from 1 January, for every wholesale (B2B) transaction at fuel stations, an invoice will have to be issued from the first euro.

A definitive end to the “trade” in fuel receipts is being introduced, according to relevant information, under decision A.1129/2026 of the Governor of AADE, Giorgos Pitsilis.

With this decision, from 1 January 2027, for every wholesale (B2B) transaction at fuel stations, an invoice will have to be issued from the first euro.

This means that it will no longer be possible for someone to collect receipts from any petrol station and then issue an invoice against them.

This is because, under the new system, simple retail fuel receipts (i.e. without the customer’s tax identification number) will no longer be accepted for recording as business or professional expenses.

As noted, taking advantage of the previous framework introduced several years ago, when electronic invoicing and automatic submission to myDATA did not yet exist, various fraudsters were declaring expenses they had not actually incurred in order to pay less tax.

Naturally, under the new process, all business fuel expenses will be automatically recorded in myDATA through the issuance of invoices.

This decision does not require any changes to petrol station software, since they already issue invoices in any case.
