Extraordinary traffic measures will be put into effect on Friday (13/2) in central Athens, as farmers prepare for their major mobilization with tractors at Syntagma Square, following the deadlock in their negotiations with the Maximos Mansion.
The Traffic Police warn drivers to avoid driving through and parking their vehicles in the wider city center area, noting that traffic regulations will be implemented gradually and depending on prevailing conditions, both in central Athens and on major road arteries of Attica.
The farmers’ rally is scheduled for 16:00; however, traffic modifications are expected to be introduced earlier. The Traffic Police announcement states:
“Due to scheduled gatherings and farmers’ mobilizations that will take place on Friday, 13 February 2026, extraordinary traffic measures will be in effect from the morning in the wider area of central Athens and on major road arteries of Attica. These will be implemented gradually and depending on prevailing conditions.
Drivers are advised, for their better service and to avoid additional traffic problems, to refrain from driving through and parking their vehicles on the road network of the wider Athens city center and to follow the instructions of traffic officers.”
Farmers’ descent on Athens
At a previous assembly, immediately after their meeting with the Prime Minister on January 19, farmers and livestock breeders decided to hold a rally in central Athens on Friday, 13 February.
They also decided on a mass descent with tractors since, as the president of the United Federation of Agricultural Associations of Karditsa, Kostas Tzellás, told NEWS 24/7, nothing changed following their discussion with Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
As described to NEWS 24/7 by the vice president of the Federation of Agricultural Associations of Larissa, Sokratis Aleiftiras, the farmers decided to stay overnight at Syntagma Square on Friday night and return to their regions the following day, Saturday.
So far, it is not known which roadblocks will participate in tomorrow’s mobilization. However, it is estimated that most tractors will come from roadblocks closer to Athens, as bringing a tractor from Thessaly to Athens is costly and time-consuming.
