An unprecedented and extremely dangerous incident occurred on Tuesday (23/6) at midday, when a man repeatedly crossed Syngrou Avenue perpendicularly, posing a risk both to himself and to passing vehicles.
A black-clad man, who appeared to be in a state of frenzy, crossed Syngrou Avenue more than once while vehicles attempted to avoid him by making sudden manoeuvres.
The man reportedly spoke to himself, made erratic movements, threw a stone at a bus, sat on the roadway, and performed jumps on the avenue. He repeatedly crossed the traffic flow toward the direction of the coastal road, at the height of Panteion University.
The fact that no accident occurred was purely a matter of luck and the quick reflexes of drivers, as the man was “lunging” toward Syngrou Avenue and oncoming vehicles. Passers-by repeatedly called the authorities, but no one appeared.
Pedestrians attempted to speak to him and prevent him from standing in the middle of the road, but he became frightened and again moved perpendicularly across the traffic lanes.
Later – and while police remained absent for at least 40 minutes – the man boarded bus 040, heading toward the city centre.
