Charalambos Vourliotis, head of Greece’s Anti-Money Laundering Authority and former Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, has ordered the freezing of assets belonging to Konstantinos Firinidis, founder of the NGO “Paidiki Chara”, and his partner, Vasiliki Manisioti.
The two are accused of embezzling €2.9 million, prompting the Authority to freeze their bank accounts, safe deposit boxes, real estate and other assets.
As part of its investigation into the flow of funds, the Authority sought information on money transfers conducted through PayPal accounts linked to the defendants. The investigation traced a total of €300,000 to Luxembourg.
The Authority has also frozen properties belonging to the two defendants in the Thessaloniki area.
According to information made public, donors to the NGO “Paidiki Chara” may claim funds frozen by the Authority, provided they can prove that the money belongs to them. To do so, they must submit relevant documentation confirming their payments to the organisation.
Documents or emails demonstrating that donors had transferred money to the NGO may be used as supporting evidence.
