Patissia: Video footage shows aftermath of shooting targeting 55-year-old

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the armed attack on a 55-year-old man, which took place shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday in Patissia.

The incident unfolded at the intersection of Vroutou and Themou Anninou streets, where, according to initial reports, two people riding a motorcycle approached the 55-year-old as he was leaving his home and opened fire on him.

The man was injured in the lower limbs and tried to move away from the scene. After a few metres, he collapsed on the roadway, where he was found by emergency responders.

Video footage recorded shortly after the shooting and released by ERT shows the injured man lying in the street, while local residents had come out of their homes to find out what had happened.

 

What eyewitnesses described

Local residents said they heard a deafening noise and, about ten seconds later, another gunshot. They immediately came out of their homes and saw the 55-year-old injured on the roadway.

The two assailants fled the scene on the motorcycle in an unknown direction and are being sought by police. The injured man was picked up by an EKAB ambulance and taken to Gennimatas Hospital, where he is being treated and is out of danger.

Police officers who searched the area found traces of blood and collected three shell casings and one bullet, which have been sent for forensic examination. At the same time, investigators are seeking footage from security cameras in order to trace the route taken by the assailants before and after the attack.

The motive behind the armed attack remains unknown, while one of the scenarios being examined by the authorities is the possibility that it was a settling of scores.
