After the 2.5-year-old bear cub in Kozani, a second wild animal shot was discovered on the Egnatia Odos Florina–Kozani highway.

A dead bear was found on the Egnatia Odos Florina–Kozani highway with injuries to the neck and back. According to officials from “Arcturos,” it had been shot multiple times in the Kalabokia area.

This is the second bear found dead in Western Macedonia within 24 hours, after a 2.5-year-old male cub was discovered with three bullets in its head in the village of Pylori in the Municipality of Voio, Kozani.

According to the Forestry Director of Tsotyli, Theodoros Palamas, the report of the incident was made by a local livestock farmer who heard a gunshot and informed the Hellenic Police. The Forestry Department of Tsotyli was also notified and located the dead bear in a rural area of Pylori, following all required procedures by the relevant authorities.

The necropsy confirmed that the animal had injuries caused by a firearm, after which it was buried.

As Mr. Palamas stated, all necessary evidence has been collected for the formation of a case file and the investigation of the incident, while investigations by forestry service officials in Tsotyli are ongoing, aiming to identify the perpetrator(s).
