Serres: Video captures moment of head-on collision between car and truck – Mother and son killed

The seconds leading up to the fatal collision in Serres, in which a mother and her son were killed instantly in a crash involving a truck, were captured on video.

According to information reported by ERT, the accident occurred on the Amphipolis–Drama highway, outside Palaiokomi. The same reports state that the victims were a 46-year-old mother and her 21-year-old son, who was driving the car, while the woman was in the passenger seat.

The mother and son were permanent residents of Palaiokomi and worked at a food service business in the area. At the time of the accident, they were on their way to work.

The collision occurred under circumstances that remain unclear, when the driver of the car crashed into the truck. The 56-year-old truck driver was injured and taken by EKAB ambulance to the General Hospital of Drama, where he is being treated.

The truck was equipped with a front-facing camera, which recorded the tragic moments and the violent collision with the car.

In the video, obtained by ERT, the driver of the car can be seen losing control of the vehicle for an unknown reason, crossing into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with the truck.

The exact causes of the accident are being investigated by the Traffic Police, which is examining the circumstances surrounding the head-on collision.

Strong forces from the Hellenic Police, two fire engines and EKAB crews immediately rushed to the scene of the accident, carrying out operations to extricate the occupants and deal with the incident.

Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted, while police authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation to establish the exact causes and circumstances of the fatal head-on collision.
