The 39-year-old passenger of the helicopter that caused alarm on Saturday (22/8), when it landed on Zogeria beach in Spetses while swimmers were present, has been released.
The foreign woman who was travelling with him has not been located and is being sought by the authorities. Meanwhile, the helicopter’s two German pilots were not arrested under the in flagrante procedure. They have given statements, while investigators continue to gather evidence for the preliminary inquiry.
The bag and the drugs
The case took a new turn when the 39-year-old Greek businessman allegedly threw away a bag or package during the landing, a move that was noticed and prompted police to launch a search.
Authorities located the item and, according to reports, 0.5 grams of cocaine was found.
Following searches on the island, police located the 39-year-old, took him to the local police station and arrested him. He was later released on the orders of a prosecutor.
Investigation into the landing continues
Authorities are also investigating the circumstances under which the helicopter landed on the busy beach. According to reports, the German pilot said he was unable to use the island’s helipad because a motorcycle was parked there, prompting him to choose Zogeria instead.
The Piraeus Prosecutor’s Office has intervened in the case, while the evidence being gathered as part of the preliminary investigation will be assessed to determine whether any further offences have been committed.
