Summer weather appears set to linger into September, with temperatures remaining high.
Athens sits at the center of an extended warm spell.
In his latest post, meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas presented the new 10-day forecast for the coming days.
As he notes, the heat will persist in Athens during the first days of September.
After a brief dip over the weekend, the mercury is expected to bounce back to 34–35°C levels from September 1st through roughly September 3rd. Even toward the end of the 10-day period, most ensemble runs keep maximum temperatures above 32°C.
Mr. Kolydas notes that normal climate temperatures for Athens in early September hover around 30°C, meaning actual temperatures will be 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages.
At the same time, rainfall levels will remain quite low.
Full details from his post:
“Today we are close to 35°C, while after a minor dip over the weekend, the mercury looks set to return to 34–35°C from September 1st to around September 3rd. Even toward the end of the 10-day window, most forecasts keep daily highs above 32°C.
This is particularly significant because the climatic mean maximum temperature for Athens in early September is around 30°C. Therefore, for several consecutive days, we are looking at temperatures 3 to 5 degrees above normal for this time of year. It is not necessarily extreme heat, but it is certainly a prolonged warm period that is now extending into September.
Concurrently, the probability of significant rainfall remains very low. Only around September 4–5 is there a weak signal for minor precipitation, though without much certainty at present.”
