Απίστευτες σκηνές τρόμου εκτυλίχθηκαν το απόγευμα της Τετάρτης στη Βρετανική πρωτεύουσα μετά τη διπλή επίθεση στον περίβολο του Κοινοβουλίου και τη γέφυρα Ουεστμίνστερ (Pics+Vid)
Ένας αστυνομικός έπεσε νεκρός, έξω από το Βρετανικό κοινοβούλιο, όταν ένα άτομο τον μαχαίρωσε, ενώ λίγο αργότερα και ο ίδιος ο δράστης σκοτώθηκε όταν τον πυροβόλησαν άνδρες των σωμάτων ασφαλείας.
Δύο ακόμη άτομα είναι νεκρά και τουλάχιστον 40 τραυματίστηκαν, ενώ το κοινοβούλιο παρέμεινε αποκλεισμένο έως το βράδυ της Τετάρτης, όπως δήλωσε ο Ντέιβιντ Λίντινγκντον, ο πρόεδρος της Βουλής των Κοινοτήτων.

Εκπρόσωπος της Βουλής ανέφερε στο Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο ότι στα μέλη της απαγορεύθηκε η έξοδος προσωρινά εξαιτίας ενός «συμβάντος ασφαλείας». Η συνεδρίασή της ανεστάλη.
Η Σκότλαντ Γιαρντ ανακοίνωσε ότι εκλήθη περί τις 14:40 τοπική ώρα (16:40 ώρα Ελλάδας) λόγω ενός «συμβάντος στη Γέφυρα του Ουεστμίνστερ που συνδεόταν με τη χρήση όπλων», και λίγη ώρα αργότερα ανέφερε πως αντιμετωπίζει το συμβάν ως «τρομοκρατική ενέργεια» ώσπου να μπορεί να πει με βεβαιότητα περί τίνος πρόκειται.

Ένα ελικόπτερο των υπηρεσιών άμεσης βοήθειας προσγειώθηκε μπροστά στο κοινοβούλιο λίγη ώρα αργότερα.
Σύμφωνα με βρετανικά ΜΜΕ, δύο άνθρωποι κείτονταν στο έδαφος μπροστά στη Βουλή, στην καρδιά του Λονδίνου.
«Άκουσα καθαρά πυροβολισμούς. Είδα να πέφτει κάποιος ντυμένος στα μαύρα. Νομίζω ήταν αστυνομικός», είπε υπάλληλος της Βουλής των Κοινοτήτων στο Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο.
Τουλάχιστον δύο ασθενοφόρα έσπευσαν στη Γέφυρα του Ουεστμίνστερ, κοντά στη Βουλή. Η αστυνομία απομάκρυνε το πλήθος από τη γέφυρα τονίζοντας πως η τοποθεσία «δεν είναι ασφαλής».
Εκπρόσωπος της Ντάουνινγκ Στριτ επιβεβαίωσε ότι η πρωθυπουργός Τερέζα Μέι είναι σώα και ασφαλής.
Το BBC μετέδωσε ότι υπήρχε ένα ύποπτο όχημα έξω από το κοινοβούλιο, αλλά η αστυνομία δεν έχει επιβεβαιώσει την πληροφορία.
Εν μέσω πλήρους σύγχυσης, φαινόταν σαν το συμβάν να εκτυλισσόταν σε διάφορες τοποθεσίες, περιλαμβανομένης της γέφυρας του Ουεστμίνστερ, από όπου τουρίστες τραβάνε φωτογραφίες του Μπιγκ Μπεν και άλλων αξιοθέατων.

Το συμβάν στο Λονδίνο εκτυλίχθηκε έναν χρόνο μετά τις επιθέσεις στις Βρυξέλλες.
Η Βρετανία βρισκόταν ήδη στο δεύτερο υψηλότερο επίπεδο της κλίμακας συναγερμού των αρχών.
Τον Μάιο του 2013, δύο Βρετανοί ισλαμιστές μαχαίρωσαν έναν στρατιώτη, το Λι Ρίγκμπι, σε έναν δρόμο του νοτιοδυτικού Λονδίνου. Τον Ιούλιο του 2005, τέσσερις βρετανοί ισλαμιστές σκότωσαν 52 ανθρώπους σε επιθέσεις στο σύστημα μαζικών μεταφορών της βρετανικής πρωτεύουσας. Αυτή ήταν η χειρότερη επίθεση στο Λονδίνο εν καιρώ ειρήνης.
