The gates of the National Technical University of Athens open again today for the three-day commemoration, which will culminate on Monday with the march to the U.S. Embassy.

The commemorations for the 52nd anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising continue, with the historic complex of the National Technical University of Athens on Patission Street opening its gates on Saturday morning and large crowds gathering to lay flowers in honor of the victims. Today, Sunday (16/11), the NTUA opens at 9 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m., while on Monday, November 17, the gates will open again at 9 a.m. and are scheduled to close at 1 p.m. to allow for the traditional march to the U.S. Embassy.

Student unions are present on the Polytechnic grounds, paying tribute to the 52nd anniversary. Throughout the three days, events, documentary screenings, and presentations by student groups featuring individuals who played significant roles in the events have been scheduled.

Traffic regulations

Meanwhile, emergency traffic restrictions are in effect in central Athens and will remain in place until Tuesday morning. The restrictions mainly concern the streets surrounding the Polytechnic. Bus and trolley routes have also been modified.

Security measures are heightened, with more than 5,000 police officers deployed and a helicopter transmitting live images to the Operations Center of the Athens Police Directorate.
