A nationwide strike has been declared by taxi drivers, who will stop operations on December 2 and 3. The main demands of POEIATA.

Taxi drivers across the country will proceed with a 48-hour strike on December 2 and 3, as announced days earlier by the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Owners (POEIATA).

The POEIATA announcement lists the drivers’ demands:

The taxi sector has reached its limits.

All possibilities for dialogue with the competent ministries — especially the Ministry of Transport — have been exhausted, without any solutions being provided to any of the issues affecting the daily life and survival of our colleagues.

Our constant and fundamental demands concerning sustainability and daily operations for our members have long remained unresolved, while several bills have been passed and the only response we received was an extension of time and calls for patience.

On Monday, November 24, the Federation’s Board of Directors convened and unanimously decided:

A 48-hour warning nationwide strike is declared for Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3, with mobilizations across the country.
Procedures will begin for convening a Sectoral Council to decide on further long-term mobilizations.

The Board of Directors’ demands are as follows:

• Extension of the obligation for electrification until 2035.
• Addressing unfair competition caused by multinational ride-hailing apps.
• Immediate action to combat the illegal appropriation of taxi work by private hire vehicles (E.I.X.).
• Increase of time-based charges and the minimum fare nationwide.
• Renegotiation regarding the entry of fully occupied taxis into special traffic lanes.
• Implementation of all pending matters of the sectoral legislative package.
• Adjustment of the fare structure.
• Fair tax treatment.

At the same time, we are awaiting a meeting with the Ministry, during which the Federation’s Presidium will participate together with the heads of the factions.

If there are no responses, the sector will, unanimously and decisively, make its own decisions.
