Christos Mavrikis was referred to the Court of First Instance’s Single-Member Misdemeanor Court to face charges after being involved in a violent altercation in Spata.
The Athens Public Prosecutor’s Office, before which Mavrikis appeared after being arrested for the incident, filed criminal charges against him for illegal possession of a flashbang weapon, reckless shooting, illegal possession of ammunition (flashbang canisters), disobedience, threats, and illegal possession of a marine flare.
The Incident
The drama began at 6:40 PM on Monday (February 16) when a 75-year-old man—whose identity was not known at the time as Mavrikis—fired two shots into the air and then barricaded himself inside his home.
The situation took a new turn, as by midnight the situation had not been resolved and the suspect had not surrendered, prompting a large police operation and the involvement of a special negotiator.
At around 12:10 AM, police forces conducted a surprise raid on his residence, but Mavrikis, known also as the “chief tick,” was not found inside. Thorough searches were immediately launched on his property, as well as nearby areas, to locate him.
Eventually, Christos Mavrikis was found hiding in a neighboring plot of land where he had sought refuge and was arrested just before 12:30 AM.
A few minutes later, a large convoy of vehicles, including the car transporting the detainee, left the scene. Police sources confirmed that the detainee was in good health.
A Troubled Criminal Record
Christos Mavrikis had already been under house arrest after his arrest in May 2025 for the felony charge of bribing a Supreme Court judge.
In the past, Mavrikis had been convicted for his involvement in the infamous phone tapping case through OTE’s telephone boxes in 1989, as well as for attempting to bribe former Supreme Court President Ioanna Klapa in 1997.
