Cameras installed on 10 bus lines and 6 roads in Athens – Which violations will be recorded

A decision was posted on Diavgeia regarding the installation of both portable and fixed cameras on six central roads in Athens and on 10 buses of the OASA (Athens Urban Transport Organization) to record violations of the Highway Code.

Specifically, according to the two decisions posted on Diavgeia, following a decision by the Ministry of Transport (Road Systems Supervision and Safety Service), the six roads where cameras will be placed are:

• On the downward slope of Syggrou, at the height of Skra (on the VMS with integrated radar for Spot Speed, for helmet non-use, seat belt non-use, and mobile phone usage).
• On the upward slope of Syggrou, at the height of Theatirion (Average Speed Section Control – records speed violation).
• On the upward slope of Syggrou, at the height of Priinis (with Average Speed Section Control, records speed violation).
• On Mesogeion – Chalandriou (records red light violations, aims from behind the vehicles because the camera must see the traffic light).
• On Vouliagmenis – Tinos (records red light violations, aims from behind the vehicles because the camera must see the traffic light).
• On Amalias Avenue, at the wide sidewalk in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (records red light violations and non-use of helmets, seat belts, and mobile phone use).

The installation of portable cameras on 10 buses of OASA concerns vehicles that pass through lines with especially high traffic, where repeated incidents of illegal entry of vehicles into bus lanes are observed, in some routes exceeding 20-30% of the observed flow. Also, frequent attempts of overtaking or intervening in front of buses when departing from stops and an increased concentration of minor collisions causing material damage during peak hours.

• B5, ST. LARISIS – L. ALEXANDRAS – AG. PARASKEVI
• 608, GALATSI – ACADEMIA – NEK. ZOGRAFOU
• 550, P. FALIRO – KIFISIA
• A7, STOURNARI – KIFISIA (PLATEIA PLATANOU)
• 831, PIRAEUS – AIGALEO
• 904, PL. KARAISKAKI – ST. PIRAEUS – FREATTYDA (CYCLIC)
• E14, SYNTHAGMA – OAKA – MIN. EDUCATION (EXPRESS)
• 035, ANO KYPSYLI – PETRALONA – TAVROS
• 227, ANO PETRALONA – AG. ARTEMIOS

The cameras will record, with special sensors, violations of the Highway Code such as excessive speed, red light violations, and the use of mobile phones while driving, aiming to enhance road safety.
