Spring on Hold – Two weather disturbances will affect the country
ΓΙΩΡΓΟΣ ΚΟΝΤΑΡΙΝΗΣ / EUROKINISSI

The weather will change starting today, Tuesday (March 17), as a wave of bad weather approaches. How long will the instability last?

We will need a little more patience for spring, as a new system of weather disturbances is “on the doorstep,” ready to bring noticeable changes to the weather scene.

As meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas points out, from Tuesday and especially Thursday and Friday, rain and even snow are expected in many parts of the country.

The two systems, moving from the Gulf of Sirte and the Strait of Sicily, will significantly affect many regions. According to Kolyvas, there is a small but real chance that snow may temporarily fall in low-mountain areas of Central and Northern Greece, while in the mountainous regions, snowfalls are almost certain and could be heavy in some places.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the rains will be mostly local, but from Thursday onwards, they will become more widespread, affecting the Aegean and Crete as well. Winds in the Aegean will intensify significantly, reaching 8 Beaufort, increasing the feeling of cold.

So far, data shows that the instability might continue even after March 24, with more rain expected in many areas of the country.

“As seen in the satellite image, the system that will affect us is ‘on the doorstep.’ We will be affected by two disturbances, and from Tuesday, and mainly Thursday and Friday, the weather will change significantly in our country. Special attention is drawn to the two systems that will move from the Gulf of Sirte and the Strait of Sicily.

These will bring not only significant rains but also snowfalls. There is a small, but real chance that the snow may temporarily fall in low-mountain areas of Central and Northern Greece from Thursday to Friday (we will see this in the next few days), while in the mountainous regions, snowfalls are almost certain, and in some areas, they may be heavy.

The rains on Tuesday and Wednesday will mostly be local, but from Thursday onwards, they will become more widespread, affecting the Aegean and Crete. At the same time, the winds in the Aegean will intensify significantly, reaching storm-force 8 Beaufort, increasing the feeling of cold. So far, the data indicates that the instability may continue after March 24, with new rains expected in many areas of the country. Therefore, it seems that spring will need a little more patience.
