Iranian ballistic missiles were intercepted by Greek Patriots in Saudi Arabia. The detailed statement by Nikos Dendias follows.

Nikos Dendias announced that the Greek Patriot missile system in Saudi Arabia had successfully downed Iranian missiles.

Specifically, the Greek Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, announced the interception of two Iranian ballistic missiles by the Greek system in Saudi Arabia.

The Iranian missiles were heading towards Saudi Arabian refineries.

Earlier today, the Greek Patriot missile system in Saudi Arabia intercepted two ballistic missiles originating from Iran, which were headed for refineries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This event demonstrates the operational effectiveness of the Greek system and the experience it has accumulated over time. Furthermore, it indirectly but clearly protects the standard of living of Greek citizens and Europeans.

The continuous rise in oil prices poses a significant threat to the standard of living of Greeks, Europeans, and people around the world,” said Nikos Dendias.

“The creation of inflation and rising prices also threatens us. The protection of refineries and oil production facilities is of paramount importance in this context.

I would therefore like to congratulate the personnel of the Armed Forces, the Greek Air Force in Saudi Arabia, for their achievement,” he added.

The General Staff of National Defense also issued a statement, which reads as follows:

“Be informed that on Thursday, March 19, 2026, during the morning hours, the Patriot Guided Missile Battery of the Greek Force in Saudi Arabia (ELDYSA), as part of its participation in the ‘Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) Concept’ international initiative to support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s air defense, fired two missiles and successfully intercepted two ballistic missile targets, according to the existing Rules of Engagement.

The force continues its mission as planned.”
