Eleven injured in major fire in Aspropyrgos – Concerns over propane tank

A major firefighting operation is underway in Aspropyrgos following a blaze at a business facility. Concerns have been raised over a truck carrying a propane tank located inside the premises.

The fire that broke out at a spare parts business in Aspropyrgos has grown to major proportions, leaving eleven people injured, three of whom are intubated and suffering from severe burns.
More specifically, six people were transferred to Thriasio Hospital. Two of them have been intubated, three have suffered minor burns, while one person has been discharged.
Five people have been transferred to Attikon Hospital. One patient is intubated and is being transferred to KAT Hospital, while four more people, who arrived at the hospital on their own initiative, are suffering from respiratory problems.
According to the latest information, the fire has spread to neighboring businesses.
As made known by the Fire Department, the blaze has generated a significant thermal load, and firefighting forces are making efforts to contain it.
Particular concern has been raised over the presence of a truck carrying a propane tank located within the premises.
Firefighting forces reinforced
According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out at around 8:00 in a business facility at the junction of Megaridos and Chiou streets in Aspropyrgos, Attica, with initial information indicating that it was a business dealing with leaf springs and spare parts.
Thick smoke has spread across the area, making the atmosphere suffocating.
To extinguish the fire, the Fire Department’s forces have been reinforced and 75 firefighters are operating with 20 vehicles, as well as 4 specialized vehicles, including 2 aerial ladder trucks, 1 specialized aerial vehicle for refineries, and 1 special vehicle for refilling breathing apparatus. One helicopter is also operating from the air. Water tankers from local authorities are providing assistance.
112 message for evacuation of the area
A 112 emergency alert message sent shortly ago due to the ongoing fire in the area is calling on people near Megaridos Street in Aspropyrgos to evacuate.
More specifically, the message states: “Fire in the area of Aspropyrgos, Attica Region. If you are in the area of Megaridos Street in Aspropyrgos, move away towards Aspropyrgos via Agiou Georgiou Street. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”
