A 38-year-old police officer was found dead inside an unmarked police vehicle late Monday night into Tuesday, at the intersection of Pikrodafnis and Vouliagmenis streets, in Agios Dimitrios.
According to information available so far, he had been reported missing since the morning.
Τhe police officer was found alone inside the vehicle, which was locked. Initial information indicated that there were no visible signs of injury, while police officers rushed to the scene and searched both the surrounding area and the vehicle.
A forensic pathologist was also called to the scene and, according to initial assessments, found no obvious evidence suggesting foul play. However, all possibilities remain open until the forensic examination is completed.
The 38-year-old officer served with the Athens Patrols Sub-Directorate and had been sought by his family since the morning of the previous day. His wife was the one who reported him missing at the Acropolis Police Station.
The police officer’s mobile phone remained switched on, allowing authorities to use data from mobile phone towers to identify the area where he was located. When officers arrived at the scene, they unfortunately found that he was already dead.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the results of the forensic examination in order to determine the exact circumstances and cause of death.
