When is the peak of the heat expected?

A new rise in temperatures, along with stronger winds in the Aegean, is expected in the coming period, according to meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas.

In a post focusing on the 15-day outlook for winds and temperatures, the former director of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) wrote: “Over the next 15 days, the weather pattern indicates a new strengthening of winds in the Aegean, mainly from August 23 to 27, with the Central Aegean and particularly the Kafireas Strait showing the strongest signal. The likelihood of winds reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort is increasing, while gusts at Cape Doro could locally exceed 40 kt.”

At the same time, according to Kolydas, “in Athens and Thessaloniki, temperatures are expected to rise until around August 22–25*, reaching a* peak of around 36–37°C*, followed by a* gradual decline*. After the 10th day, uncertainty increases significantly.”
