Messolonghi: 48-year-old doctor found dead inside hospital

An anesthesiologist who was on duty was found unconscious on Saturday morning at Messolonghi Hospital. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out.

A 48-year-old anesthesiologist was found dead in the on-call room at Messolonghi Hospital on Saturday (29/8), according to Michalis Giannakos, president of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees (POEDIN).
According to Giannakos, the 48-year-old doctor was on duty and was found dead in the on-call room this morning by a colleague who had arrived to relieve him.
“Last night, he took part in the on-call shift as normal, and in the morning a colleague found him dead on the floor beside the bed in the on-call room,” Giannakos said.
A post-mortem examination will shed light on the cause of his death.
“However, in cases like this, our thoughts will always turn to occupational burnout,” Giannakos noted, adding that only two anesthesiologists were serving at Messolonghi Hospital.
He also expressed his condolences to the doctor’s family and loved ones, as well as to his colleagues at Messolonghi Hospital.
The 48-year-old was married and had an eight-year-old child, while, according to the same information, he had no known health problems.
