Agios Dimitrios: The stabbing of the son of the senior Hellenic Police Officer in a ‘blind spot’ area
EUROKINISSI

New details are emerging regarding the fatal stabbing of the 25-year-old son of a senior officer in the Hellenic Police in Agios Dimitrios.

Investigations are in full swing by the Homicide Department of the Organized Crime Division at the Asyrmatos Park in Agios Dimitrios for the murder of the 25-year-old, who was fatally stabbed in the heart.

The victim is the son of a high-ranking police officer with extensive service in security and order services and has never been involved with authorities in any criminal activities in the past.

From the outset, robbery has been ruled out as a possible motive, as the victim’s personal belongings, money, and mobile phone were found in his possession. Additionally, sports-related motives have been dismissed, as no evidence has emerged suggesting he was involved in such activities. There is also no indication that he engaged in drinking or substance abuse, and he generally led a quiet life.

The Critical Minutes and the “Blind” Spot

It appears that the unfortunate young man left around 9 p.m. on his own to go to a specific spot, where there were reports from witnesses of a commotion and voices suggesting a verbal altercation. The victim was later found by a group of minors who called for help.

However, these testimonies of a commotion refer to a half-hour to an hour earlier, while the victim left his home at 9 p.m., so this testimony cannot be fully connected to the incident.

A foreign national called the Emergency Response, and soon the area was cordoned off by strong police forces, with a team from the Security and Criminalistics Departments being called in. There are no cameras in the park, and the authorities are trying to track any suspicious movements outside of it, while the victim’s mobile phone will also be examined to see if there are any messages that could point to the person or persons he met with or who called him to the location.

The potential motives are being examined to see if they were personal or if the meeting was arranged for an unknown reason that escalated and ended tragically. The Mayor of Agios Dimitrios, Stelios Mamalakis, visited the scene. “We have an incident in a park that has been leased to a contractor for a long time. A park for renovation,” he said. When asked about the lack of cameras in the area, he responded: “The residents are right about the issue of cameras (…) because it is an area with a fairly high crime rate.”
