The arrest follows a new operation by the Counter-Terrorism Unit linked to the fatal arson attack at the home of Afroditi Nestora’s family, which resulted in the death of her mother, Vagia Nestora.
Acting on an arrest warrant issued by the investigating judge, counter-terrorism officers apprehended a 24-year-old man in the Ano Poli district of Thessaloniki. According to sources, the suspect allegedly acted as a link between the perpetrators: he received the keys to an apartment owned by another 24-year-old suspect—who was remanded in custody yesterday—and handed them over to a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. The couple reportedly used the apartment as a safehouse and base of operations.
This marks the fourth arrest in the ongoing investigation. The suspect, who was detained at his residence, is expected to appear before the investigating judge to face severe terrorism-related charges.
Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and locate three additional members of a second subgroup. This cell is believed to be responsible for two other gas canister attacks targeting the homes of Savvas Anastasiadis and Zisis Ioakimovic.
