Some employees will gradually return to normal working schedules from tomorrow, Friday, January 2, following New Year’s Day.
January 2, however, is not an official public holiday, although traditionally many retail stores choose to remain closed—either to allow staff to rest or to carry out inventory stocktaking.
What Applies to Supermarkets
Most supermarket chains—with some exceptions, which consumers should check via the official websites of each company—have also announced that they will be closed on January 2.

What Applies to Banks
As January 2 is not a public holiday, all banks will be open on that day. Citizens will once again be able to carry out pending payments and fund transfers that may have been “frozen” due to the holiday period.
The next “break” in the banking calendar comes on Tuesday, January 6, the day of Epiphany, when banks will remain closed.
As for municipalities, whether there will be public services available on the second day of the year is decided by each municipal authority individually.
