Metropolitan Panteleimon of Ptolemais has been placed on indefinite suspension by decision of Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria.
According to a statement issued by the Patriarchate of Alexandria, the decision was taken following a “regrettable incident” that occurred in Athens. The suspension will remain in effect until the investigation into the matter has been completed and the facts of the case have been fully clarified.
Although the Patriarchate’s announcement does not provide further details about the nature of the incident, it is noted that Metropolitan Panteleimon was arrested in the Petralona district of Athens following complaints that he had engaged in indecent conduct and exposed his genitals to passersby.
The Metropolitan was taken to the Security Department (police unit) to face the charges brought against him.
