The investigation into the killing of the 41-year-old EKAB paramedic on Syros is in full swing, with authorities seeking to establish the exact circumstances under which she lost her life.
On Saturday morning (25/7), a reconstruction was carried out at the scene of the crime in the presence of police officers and the two arrested suspects — the alleged perpetrator and his wife.
The pair had been brought before the Syros Public Prosecutor’s Office the previous day. However, no charges have yet been filed against them, as the prosecutor ordered the continuation of the preliminary investigation and a reconstruction of the incident in order to clarify key aspects of the case.
The videos and the unanswered questions
The video footage in the possession of the police is at the centre of the investigation.
According to information available so far, the 41-year-old woman is seen arriving at the couple’s home with her facial features covered and entering the house.
A short time later, she is seen leaving the residence, followed by the couple. According to the same reports, the alleged perpetrator threw a chair and a flowerpot at her, causing the woman to collapse a few metres away.
Despite being taken by EKAB ambulance to Syros General Hospital, the 41-year-old succumbed to her injuries.
Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou said the video footage had been thoroughly examined and largely corroborated the statements given so far by the two arrested suspects. However, it remains unclear what exactly happened inside the residence, where, according to their claims, the 41-year-old was initially injured with a sharp object.
Claim of lawful self-defence under scrutiny
Particular attention is being paid to the alleged perpetrator’s claim that he acted in lawful self-defence.
Prosecutors and police are examining whether the legal conditions for self-defence were met or whether its limits were exceeded, as the evidence gathered so far suggests that the attack against the 41-year-old continued outside the residence.
At the same time, it remains unclear why the paramedic visited the couple’s home. Scenarios suggesting an attempted robbery are under investigation but have not yet been confirmed by the authorities. The preliminary investigation is continuing with the aim of fully clarifying the circumstances of the case.
