Tsipras on wiretapping: “What goes into the archive can just as easily come out”

Former prime minister Alexis Tsipras issued a statement after the Supreme Court’s decision not to retrieve the wiretapping case from the archive.

As Alexis Tsipras commented, “the leadership of the Greek judiciary in recent years always finds a way to surprise us with its speed, especially when the exposure of a para-state mechanism that brutally violated the Rule of Law is imminent.”

“However, let those concerned be aware: anything that easily goes into the archive can just as easily come out of the archive,” he stressed.

It is recalled that, with its decision today, the Supreme Court effectively discarded the widely discussed ruling of the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Athens, which had paved the way for an extensive investigation into wiretapping via the Predator system.

The country’s highest court, to which the decision had been referred in order to determine whether and how further investigation would proceed — as requested by the court’s president, Mr. Askianakis — ruled that the necessary conditions were not met for any issue to be examined at all.
