Identification of all bodies from the tragic road accident in Romania, in which 7 PAOK fans lost their lives and 3 others were injured, has been carried out by the relevant authorities, while questions remain about the circumstances under which the tragedy occurred, which has plunged the entire nation into mourning.
According to information, the documents for the victims are expected to be issued by the Romanian authorities on Thursday (29/1). Their transfer to Greece will take place via a C-130 aircraft that is stationed in Elefsina.
As for the injured, two are in a condition to travel back to Greece, however, the third one, who is in a more serious condition but is not in danger of losing their life and will require surgery, will be examined to decide where the surgery will take place, either in Romania or Greece. In any case, all have survived the critical phase.
These details were confirmed in an interview (SKAI) by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giannis Loverdos. He also mentioned that the oldest of the victims was 30 years old. Optimistic forecasts for the injured
Specifically, regarding the injured, the doctors’ estimates at the Timisoara hospital are optimistic. This was the message conveyed by the Ambassador of Greece to Romania, Lili Grammatika, who visited the hospital on the evening of Tuesday (27/1) and was informed by the hospital management about the condition of the three injured.
“I was informed by the doctors and the director of the hospital, and their condition is stable. One injured person is in quite good condition, and one is in intensive care, but all have a good, positive prognosis, and they do not need blood. In this tragedy, all of this sounds somewhat optimistic,” said the Greek Ambassador to Romania in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA). She also stated that the injured person in intensive care is not intubated but is under artificial coma.
Ms. Grammatika also mentioned that the embassy is in cooperation with the Romanian authorities for the repatriation of the bodies, which are currently in the morgue of the city of Lugos.
Testimony about the deadly traffic accident: “The steering wheel jammed during the overtaking”
Meanwhile, a testimony regarding the cause of the accident was conveyed to ERT TV by Greek doctor Dimitris Koukoulas.
According to him, the injured PAOK fan told him that the lane assist system jammed the steering wheel, causing the driver to be unable to steer the vehicle back into the right lane after overtaking.
According to the doctor, this specific injured person is in better condition than the others, with fractures mostly in the lower limbs, and described the dramatic moments leading up to the accident.
This testimony adds to the ongoing investigation by the relevant authorities to shed light on the cause of the tragic accident.
