The trial of the former parliamentary police officer and his wife, who are facing charges of abusing their children, will take place away from the public eye. The court decided that the trial should be held behind closed doors following a suggestion from the prosecutor, who stated that “there are reasons to protect the privacy of the parties and the children.” Both the defense and the prosecution supported this decision, citing the need to protect the six children involved from being stigmatized for the rest of their lives.
In fact, the mother’s lawyer argued that the publicity of the case from the outset would negatively affect the children’s mental health, referring to relevant reports from child psychologists. Earlier, the former police officer’s side, who, along with his estranged wife, was present at the court, denied the charges against him.
It is worth noting that the accused, who is currently in pretrial detention, faces severe charges, including repeated rape, repeated child rape and abuse, incest, child pornography (production and possession), systematic family abuse of minors, possession of firearms, carrying firearms, and the use of firearms repeatedly. Similarly, the children’s mother, who has been released under certain conditions, faces charges including child rape, abuse by a family member, and incestuous acts with ascendants, repeatedly and serially, in collaboration with her co-defendant.
