The infant, just 30 days old, is fighting for her life in the ICU of the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital after being infected with the seasonal RSV virus.
The baby was admitted during the hospital’s on-call shift on Sunday (8/2) in an extremely serious condition. According to information, she is being treated intubated in the ICU, with her clinical condition described as particularly critical.
The incident raises questions regarding the length of time that elapsed before the child was transferred to the hospital, as her health condition had already deteriorated significantly upon admission, according to the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Public Hospitals (POEDIN), Michalis Giannakos.
At the same time, the president of POEDIN is sounding the alarm, stressing that “seasonal viral infections have not ended,” and urging parents to be especially cautious and to seek medical help promptly, particularly when it comes to newborns and infants.
