Eleftherios Venizelos, the last grandson of the great politician, passed away at the age of 102, as announced by the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Foundation.

The Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Research and Study Foundation announces the death of Eleftherios Venizelos, the grandson of the great politician, former Member of Parliament for Chania, Honorary President, Great Benefactor, and Associate of the Foundation.
He was the last surviving grandchild of Venizelos and passed away at the age of 102.

Since the establishment of the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Foundation in 2000, he has been a valuable supporter with emotional dedication. His contribution, along with that of his wife Lili, is invaluable. The Venizelos couple donated rare museum, archival, and photographic material, as well as family objects and documents, which enriched the Foundation’s archive and the collections of the Venizelos House-Museum in Chania. They also supported a series of exhibitions, educational activities, and publications, such as the biography “Eleftherios Venizelos, the Man, the Leader” by Nikolaos Papadakis (Papadi).
With his elegance and generosity, the late Eleftherios Venizelos was always willing to share his memories and contribute personal testimonies to preserve historical memory and highlight his grandfather’s political legacy. He had a close friendship and mutual respect with the late Nikolaos Papadakis (Papadi), the founder and for 25 years General Director of the Foundation.
The management and staff of the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Foundation bid him farewell with deep emotion and express their heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
The Life of Eleftherios Venizelos
Eleftherios Venizelos was born in Athens in August 1924. His parents were Kyriakos, the eldest son of Eleftherios Venizelos, and Marika Roussou, from a shipping family in Leros. His siblings were Nikitas Venizelos and Charis Karagianni. He married Lili Harami and they had one daughter.
Before the war, his family settled in France and later in the United States, where Eleftherios studied Political and Economic Sciences at Princeton and Columbia Universities.
He was elected twice as Member of Parliament for Chania, in 1952 and 1956. After leaving politics, he worked in the family’s shipping business. He was President of the Liberal Club for many years. He was an Honorary President of the Eleftherios K. Venizelos National Foundation and, due to his significant contribution, was honored as a Great Benefactor and Associate of the Foundation. He passed away in Athens at the age of 102 on February 7, 2026.
