The four F-16 aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force arrived in Cyprus late on Monday afternoon.

Four F-16 aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force arrived in Cyprus late on Monday afternoon, following a decision by the National Security Council (KYSKEA) and Nikos Dendias, after the alert raised by drones at the British bases in Akrotiri.

As stated by the Government Spokesperson in a post, the aircraft arrived in Cyprus after the immediate response of the Greek Government, as part of strengthening preventive measures and fostering close cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and Greece.

Two frigates are also expected to arrive in Cyprus.

According to statements from the Minister of Defense, a phone call took place between Nikos Christodoulides and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, regarding the strike at the British base in Akrotiri. Additionally, Christodoulides has been in continuous communication with his counterpart in Cyprus, Vassilis Palma, over the past few days.

Greece will contribute in every possible way to the defense of Cyprus to address the threats and illegal actions on its territory. By decision of the National Security Council (KYSKEA), the frigate ‘Kimon’ is being immediately sent to Cyprus along with a second Greek frigate, which will be equipped with the ‘Centaur’ system, as well as a pair of F-16 fighter jets,” announced Nikos Dendias, who also revealed that he would travel to Cyprus tomorrow with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA).

Cyprus Government Spokesperson’s “Thank You”

“We thank the Greek Government for its response following the phone call that President @Christodulides had today with the Greek Prime Minister @kmitsotakis”.

As part of the enhanced preventive measures being taken due to developments in the broader region, it was agreed that Greece would send two Navy frigates to the Republic of Cyprus. These include the frigate ‘Kimon’ and another frigate equipped with the ‘Centaur’ unmanned aerial vehicle defense system.

At the same time, within the framework of reinforcing preventive measures and cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and Greece, a pair of F-16 fighter jets from the Hellenic Air Force will also be sent to Cyprus.”
