A serious incident involving injuries occurred on the night of Holy Saturday in Velo, Corinthia.

The serious injury of two young men, aged 19 and 24, in Velo, Corinthia, was the result of their attempt to light a firework rocket (“saita”) on the balcony of a house where they were last night, about two hours before the Resurrection service.

The 24-year-old, who was holding and lit the firework, suffered the amputation of a finger, while the 19-year-old was seriously injured in the eye. The two young men were initially taken to Corinth Hospital and, due to the severity of their injuries, were then urgently transferred to hospitals in Athens.

The 24-year-old was transferred to KAT Hospital, where he is undergoing surgical procedures in an effort by doctors to save and reattach his finger. The 19-year-old was taken to Gennimatas Hospital, where doctors are also trying to save his eye.

A preliminary investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Velo-Vocha Police Department of Corinthia, and a case file is being formed against the two young men, who were arrested but, by verbal order of the prosecutor and due to their condition, were released.
