An employee at a kiosk in Exarchia was taken to Red Cross Hospital with a wound caused by a sharp object.

A 50-year-old kiosk employee has been rushed to Red Cross Hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed in the thigh. He was taken straight into surgery due to severe, uncontrolled bleeding.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday (April 13), at the intersection of Alexandras Avenue and Hippokratous Street in Exarchia, an unknown suspect passed by the kiosk where the man was working and grabbed something in an apparent attempt to steal it.

The employee ran after him in an effort to stop him, but the suspect turned and stabbed him in the thigh, seriously injuring him, before fleeing the scene.

First responders from the Immediate Action police unit who arrived at the scene applied a tourniquet to the wound to control the heavy bleeding until an EKAB ambulance arrived and rushed the victim to the hospital.

Police have launched an extensive search in the area to locate the suspect, so far without success, while investigators are expected to collect footage from nearby security cameras in order to identify and track him down.
