A road in Toumba, Thessaloniki, caved in during fiber optic installation works, after a pipe belonging to EYATH broke, causing damage to parked vehicles.

The ground gave way on a street in the Toumba area, outside the former Papafi stables, during excavation works for the installation of fiber optics.

According to reports, a water pipe was ruptured during the works and, due to the high pressure, the ground collapsed, creating a large sinkhole. Several vehicles parked at the spot were left hanging on the edge of the gap, while one fell inside it.

The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, immediately contacted municipal services, requesting that a significant fine be imposed on the fiber optics contractor. At the same time, the Deputy Mayor for Technical Works, Prodromos Nikiforidis, in a phone call with the contractor, demanded the immediate restoration of the damage caused at the site.
