The three injured individuals have been transferred to the University Hospital of Patras after a boarding staircase collapsed at the civil airport of Araxos, during a ceremony for the naming of an aircraft belonging to a foreign company.
According to information cited by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), the most serious injuries were sustained by a journalist, who may undergo surgery, while the other two injured—a photojournalist and a cameraman—suffered lighter injuries.
Regarding the circumstances of the accident, reports indicate that journalists, cameramen, and photojournalists had climbed the boarding staircase in order to cover the arrival of a foreign airline aircraft, which was to be named “Patras.” However, for reasons still unknown, the staircase gave way, causing approximately ten people to fall to the ground.
Ambulances were immediately called, while a doctor from the hospital of Amaliada, who was present at the ceremony, provided first aid to the injured. As for the causes of the staircase collapse, an investigation has already been launched.
