Gerapetritis on drone in Lefkada: “We will not become a theater of war”

Regarding the particularly serious -as he emphasized- incident involving an unmanned maritime vessel in the Ionian Sea, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis will brief the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

“This is a particularly serious development. An investigation is currently underway by the General Staff regarding the incident. Once the investigation is completed and the necessary technical details are established, there will be a response from the Greek government through the appropriate diplomatic démarches,” he said upon arriving at the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

He also stressed: “Greece will not allow the development of war-related activities in the wider Mediterranean region, and especially in its vicinity. This creates a huge risk in terms of freedom of navigation, as well as the safety of citizens and the environment. Greece will take all necessary steps to ensure that the Mediterranean does not become a theater of military operations.”
