A nationwide strike will take place tomorrow, Wednesday (May 13), by public sector employees. All public servants, regardless of their employment relationship, will participate in the strike, meaning that public services will remain closed.
At the same time, there is a call for a protest gathering in Klafthmonos Square at 10:30 AM, as well as demonstrations in cities across the country.
In response to reports and posts that have circulated in recent hours, ADEDY clarifies that Public Transport does not fall under the public sector, and the employees in these services are not unionized under ADEDY.
As a result, tomorrow’s strike will not affect the normal operation of public transport, which is expected to run without changes to its schedules.
As ADEDY emphasizes, on May 13, “workers are fighting against the policies of impoverishment that dominate. They are responding to the policies of the government majority that focus on the few and not the many.”
The demands of the strike include:
- Defense of the institution of permanent employment
- Reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries
- Real wage increases for decent living
- Abolition of the 2% unemployment contribution
- Unfreezing of salary scales for the 2016–2017 period
- Increase in the tax-free threshold to 12,000 euros, with an additional 3,000 euros for each child
- Expansion and enhancement of the dangerous and unhealthy work allowance
- Mass recruitment of permanent staff in the public sector, especially in Health, Education, and Social Security
- Substantial strengthening of the National Health System (NHS) with generous funding
- Abolition of anti-labor laws and the new disciplinary laws
- Protection of public goods and opposition to privatizations.
