About ten days remain until the agreement to cut prices on basic products takes effect, with the measure set to begin on August 31 and remain in force at least until the end of the year.
The list of products has largely been finalised, while the price reductions agreed so far average around 7%. According to market sources, suppliers are offering reductions of approximately 5%, while supermarkets are adding a further discount of between 1.5% and 2%.
However, the list is expected to expand over the next ten days, as the Ministry of Development estimates that another 200 to 300 product codes could be added by August 31.
So far, around 1,100 product codes are included in the agreement, while, if estimates regarding the additional products are confirmed, the total could rise to as many as 1,500.
The agreement includes, among other things:
- meat,
- dairy products,
- eggs,
- pasta,
- baby food,
- coffee,
- detergents, and
- school supplies.
These are products covering both everyday food needs and essential household expenses.
So far, supplier interest has been significant, with around 60 suppliers expressing an interest in participating in the agreement, while, according to the same information, another four to five are expected to join.
The measure will come into effect on August 31 and will remain in place at least until December 31, with the aim of keeping prices in check for basic products that weigh on household budgets.
