Express bad weather: Which area will be hit hardest and at what times – What to expect in Attica

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate from the early hours of Tuesday until the first hours of Wednesday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms.

As meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas said in a post, the Sporades will be the areas most affected by the rainfall, “with local totals of up to around 43 mm and the highest three-hour intensity between 06:00 and 09:00, at around 11 mm.”

However, the meteorologist stressed that “this is a typical autumn change in weather, with temperatures falling back to more normal levels, stronger winds and locally occurring rainfall, without the characteristics of severe weather.”

What to expect in Attica

In Attica, despite today’s sunshine and temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius, rainfall is expected from the overnight hours and particularly tomorrow, with the greatest intensity in the northern and eastern parts of the region.

At the same time, minimum temperatures will fall to 16–17 degrees Celsius, bringing noticeably cooler conditions in the early morning and evening.

On Monday afternoon (September 21), the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) issued an emergency bulletin warning of deteriorating weather conditions.

According to the bulletin, the weather will deteriorate from the early hours of Tuesday (September 22, 2026) until the early hours of Wednesday (September 23, 2026) across the wider northwestern Aegean, with heavy rainfall and local thunderstorms, which will temporarily be accompanied by frequent lightning. There is also a possibility of localized hail.

Thessaly, particularly Magnesia, mainly in coastal and offshore areas, from the early hours.

The Sporades and Halkidiki, from the early hours until the afternoon.

Evia, mainly central and northern parts, from the morning until the afternoon.

Wednesday (September 23, 2026)

Thessaly, particularly Magnesia and mainly coastal and offshore areas, until the early morning hours.

Weather on Tuesday (September 22)

In Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, the Sporades and Evia, cloudy skies will bring rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy in places, with conditions gradually improving from midday.

Elsewhere in the country, clouds will bring local rainfall, while isolated thunderstorms are expected mainly over mountainous areas during the afternoon.

Winds will be northerly at 3 to 5 Beaufort, reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea.

Temperatures will fall, particularly in central and northern Greece, reaching 25–26 degrees Celsius in the north and 27–30 degrees Celsius elsewhere.

Weather on Wednesday (September 23)

In eastern Greece and Crete, clouds will temporarily increase, bringing local rainfall and possibly isolated thunderstorms during the early morning, particularly over coastal and marine areas, before conditions gradually improve.

Elsewhere, generally clear weather is expected, with temporarily increased cloud cover during the afternoon.

Winds will be northerly at 4 to 6 Beaufort.

Temperatures will fall slightly further across the country.

Generally clear weather is expected, with a few temporary clouds over mainland areas, mainly during the afternoon.

Winds will be northerly at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 Beaufort in the Aegean.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly.
