Several parts of central Thessaloniki remain without power, as the electricity outage that occurred early in the morning has not yet been fully restored, leaving conditions on a number of streets particularly difficult.
The lack of street lighting has created an unusual scene in central parts of the city, where large areas remain in deep darkness, while residents and passers-by are dealing with the effects of the outage.
Power supply problems have been reported on streets including Tsimiski, Venizelou, Ionos Dragoumi, Nikis Avenue, Kassandrou, part of the main Aristotelous axis, Agiou Dimitriou, as well as in the area around the courts and nearby streets.
Traffic lights are out of operation, while vehicles are moving at low speeds.
The situation varies from area to area, as power has been restored in some locations, while the outage continues in others.
According to initial information, the outage was caused by a fault in ADMIE’s high-voltage network, with repair work currently under way. So far, however, there is no clear estimate as to when power will be fully restored.
