The century-old Athens café, located at the corner of Charilaou Trikoupi and Kallidromiou streets, is closing after 111 years in business.

After 111 years, the historic Exarchia café “Mouria”, located at the corner of Charilaou Trikoupi and Kallidromiou streets, is closing its doors.

“Taking it all down. For all the times you held us up, and we held you up. With love,” the café wrote in a Facebook post announcing the end of its long history.

The century-old café had been facing the threat of closure after the owner of the property asked the business to vacate the premises in order to change the use of the space. In June, however, following public reactions, it was decided that the planned change of use would not go ahead.

Today, although the reasons that ultimately led the café to shut down have not been disclosed, the curtain is falling on its 111-year run.
