African dust is here to stay – Temperatures expected to reach 25°C in some areas

African dust is set to return from tomorrow, Easter Tuesday (April 14), and will persist for several days, with temperatures remaining at high-for-the-season levels.

According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), on Tuesday there will be partly cloudy skies at times, locally denser across the country. Local rain showers are expected mainly from midday in the west. In the afternoon, the phenomena will spread to central and southern mainland areas and by evening to western and central Macedonia.

Visibility in the morning hours will be locally limited in central and northern mainland regions.

Conditions favor the transport of African dust, mainly in the west and south.

Winds will blow from east-southeast, in the west at 4 to 6 Beaufort locally up to 7 and in the Ionian islands up to 8 Beaufort, while in the east at 3 to 5 and in the southern Aegean up to 6 Beaufort.

Temperatures will not change significantly, reaching 18 to 19°C in the north and locally 20°C, 24 to 25°C in the west, and 21 to 22°C in the rest of the country, locally up to 23°C in Crete.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

Weather: Partly cloudy skies at times, locally denser, with local rain showers in the evening in western and central Macedonia and possibly brief showers around midday-afternoon in mountainous areas.

Winds: Easterly 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally up to 5 in the east.

Temperature: From 5 to 18–19°C and locally up to 20°C in central Macedonia.

IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Increasing cloudiness at times with local rain showers mainly from midday.

Winds: East-southeast 4 to 6 Beaufort, locally up to 7 and in the Ionian islands up to 8 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 11 to 24°C and locally up to 25°C inland. In inland Epirus 2 to 3 degrees lower.

THESSALY, EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE, EUBOEA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE

Weather: Partly cloudy skies at times, locally denser. Local rain showers expected from the afternoon in eastern Peloponnese and central Greece, spreading to other areas in the evening.

Winds: Easterly 3 to 5 Beaufort and locally up to 6 in southern coastal areas.

Temperature: From 8 to 20–21°C.

CYCLADES, CRETE

Weather: Partly cloudy skies at times, locally denser, with a chance of local rain showers around midday-afternoon.

Winds: East-southeast 4 to 6 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 13 to 21°C and up to 23°C in Crete.

EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE

Weather: Partly cloudy skies at times, locally denser.

Winds: East-southeast 4 to 5 Beaufort and temporarily in the south locally up to 6 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 12 to 21°C, 2 to 3 degrees lower in the north.

ATTICA

Weather: Partly cloudy skies at times denser, with a chance of light local rain in the evening.

Winds: Easterly 3 to 4 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 10 to 21°C.

THESSALONIKI

Weather: Partly cloudy skies at times denser, with local rain during the night.

Winds: East-southeast 3 to 4 Beaufort.

Temperature: From 9 to 19°C.

FORECAST FOR WEDNESDAY 15-04-2026

Cloudiness at times increased across the country, with local rain in the west, central and northern areas.

Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be locally limited in western mainland areas.

Conditions favor the transport of African dust mainly in the west and south.

Winds in the west will be east-southeast 4 to 6 Beaufort and in the southern Ionian locally 7 to 8 Beaufort. In the east, winds will be east-northeast 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the Aegean locally up to 6 Beaufort.

Temperatures will not change significantly, reaching 19 to 20°C in the north and locally 21°C, 24 to 25°C in the west, and 21 to 23°C elsewhere, locally up to 24°C in Crete.

FORECAST FOR THURSDAY 16-04-2026

In Thrace and the eastern Aegean islands, periods of increased cloudiness. In the rest of the country, increased cloudiness with local rain.

Conditions favor the transport of African dust mainly in southern areas.

Winds will be north-northeast 4 to 6 Beaufort and in the Aegean 7 locally up to 8 Beaufort.

Temperatures will not change significantly.

FORECAST FOR FRIDAY 17-04-2026

In the west and north, partly cloudy skies at times denser with local rain in the northwest. In the rest of the country, periods of increased cloudiness with local rain and in southern island areas possibly thunderstorms.

Conditions favor the transport of African dust in the southeast.

Winds will be north-northeast 3 to 6 Beaufort and in the east locally 7 to 8 Beaufort.

Temperatures will drop slightly.

FORECAST FOR SATURDAY 18-04-2026

In the Dodecanese and Crete, a few clouds locally increased with local rain. In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with temporary cloudiness in northern mainland areas during midday hours, when local rain is possible.

Winds will be from northern directions 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the east 6 to 7, temporarily locally up to 8 Beaufort.

Temperatures will not change significantly.
