The Greek delegation is already in Jerusalem, where a meeting will take place with the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, as well as the ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for the lighting of the Holy Light.
Afterwards, the delegation will return to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem for the handover of the Holy Light before departing back to the airport and the flight to Athens, with the aim of arriving at “Eleftherios Venizelos” at approximately 18:30 in the afternoon.
From there, it will be transported by special flights across the country.
Deputy Foreign Minister Giannis Loverdos, speaking to ERT, stressed that so far the schedule is proceeding smoothly and expressed the assessment that no delays are expected, underlining that the process is moving at a steady pace and “with optimism”.
“The Holy Light symbolizes the peace and love of Christ, and we hope it will help ensure that everything goes well,” he noted, adding that the atmosphere within the delegation is positive ahead of the Resurrection.
At the same time, he pointed out that the image at Ben Gurion Airport is striking, as it appears almost empty, with limited civilian activity and mainly military aircraft, reflecting the fragile security situation in the region, despite the ceasefire in place.
