Journalist Thanasis Avgerinos Supports Karystianou’s Party

“I could not be absent from such a historic moment,” journalist Thanasis Avgerinos said in a social media post in which he publicly declares his support for Maria Karystianou’s party.

According to information released so far, Maria Karystianou is expected to officially present the new party on May 21 in Thessaloniki.

“This will undoubtedly be a historic moment for the post-junta era, perhaps the definitive end of the Metapolitefsi period and the bipartisan — essentially one-party — system of ‘professional’ politicians who led the country to bankruptcy and humiliating bailout memoranda.

For the first time, an attempt is being made to create a force of institutional transcendence over what Professor G. Kontogiorgis describes as a ‘parliamentary monarchy’, through a ‘broad-front’ alliance of patriotic political and social forces with different starting points, which came together in the wake of the criminal tragedy of Tempi and the scandalous cover-up of its still unknown causes and the real culprits behind it.

The central objective is the eradication of corruption among the political establishment and their ‘cronies’, the real — and not merely nominal — independence of the judiciary, addressing vital problems and improving the collapsing standard of living for the majority of citizens, creating conditions for the return of those who were forced to leave the country, broadening the legitimacy and representativeness of our democracy, and strengthening the role of active citizens, who are trying to regain control over their lives and formulate coordinated solutions to the country’s multifaceted and deeply entrenched existential crisis.
