The young men insulted the transgender woman, threw eggs at her, and then struck her with their car, injuring her. They are accused of crimes committed with racist motives.

Three foreign nationals aged 19 and 20 were arrested in the early hours of Friday by officers of the Immediate Action police unit in the Kallithea area. Specifically, those arrested were one Polish national, two Albanians, and a 20-year-old Greek man, who, while riding in a vehicle, struck and injured a 47-year-old transgender woman from Albania in Kallithea.

A case file was formed against them by the Racist Violence Crime Unit of the Athens Police Directorate for, depending on each individual’s involvement, attempted grievous bodily harm and joint insult, crimes committed with racist characteristics.

More specifically, during the evening hours of Thursday in the Kallithea area, the defendants, while riding in a vehicle, approached the transgender woman and repeatedly verbally abused her on Syngrou Avenue, using expressions targeting her gender identity, while also throwing eggs and objects at her.

After midnight on Friday, the defendants returned to the scene and continued their abusive and aggressive behavior toward her. A short time later, while the victim was returning to her home on Doiranis Street in Kallithea, the defendants struck her with their vehicle, causing her bodily injuries.
