Kyriaki Griva murder case: Prosecutor calls for trial of four police officers

The prosecutor is seeking the referral to trial of the four police officers involved in the case of the cold-blooded murder of Kyriaki Griva.

Arguing that Kyriaki Griva was left helpless and alone, the prosecutor has asked the Athens Judicial Council to put on trial the police officers from the Agioi Anargyroi Police Department, outside of which the young woman was murdered by her former partner.
The prosecutor recommends that the four officers who were on duty that day and failed to protect Kyriaki Griva stand trial before the Mixed Jury Court on the felony charge of fatal exposure through omission by a person under legal obligation. The officers include the guard stationed at the external checkpoint of the police station, the duty officer, the supervising officer, and the emergency response dispatcher.
As the prosecutor explicitly requests from the judicial council, the defendants should be referred to trial “as responsible for the fact that, in Agioi Anargyroi, Attica, on April 1, 2024, acting intentionally through omission, they exposed another person and thereby rendered her helpless, while they had a special legal obligation under the law to act in order to prevent the outcome, and they left unaided a person under their protection, resulting through this act in the death of the victim.”
Finally, the prosecutor proposes that the restrictive conditions imposed on the defendants following their testimonies remain in force.
The decision of the Athens Judicial Council is now awaited, as it will determine whether and which of the accused will ultimately be referred to trial.
