Mykonos: Driver took tourist’s Hermès bag and Rolex costing €75,000

A case involving the misappropriation of high-value items has been solved by the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate. Officers arrested a 35-year-old Greek man and recovered the stolen items, whose total estimated value is €75,000.

More specifically, according to an official statement by the Hellenic Police, the case was investigated following a complaint.

The investigation found that in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, the 35-year-old transported a 29-year-old foreign national in his private car for an agreed fee. As security until the fare was paid, he kept the passenger’s bag and its contents. Shortly before reaching their destination, the driver took advantage of the 29-year-old briefly getting out of the vehicle, abandoned him and drove away with his personal belongings.

At midday on the same day, police officers located the 35-year-old suspect. The stolen items were also found in an outdoor area: a Hermès bag and a Rolex watch, with a combined estimated value of €75,000.

A case file was opened against the 35-year-old for misappropriation, and he was brought before the Syros Public Prosecutor’s Office.
