Rhodes: He tried to drive a car off a cliff with his ex-wife and their child inside

A near tragedy occurred in Rhodes on the night of April 21, involving a mother, her underage child, and her estranged husband.

According to information from the local newspaper ‘Democratic’, the mother went to her mother-in-law’s house to pick up their child and, at the husband’s request, drove him in her vehicle. During the drive towards the city of Rhodes, the man allegedly suddenly grabbed the steering wheel, attempting to steer the car towards a cliff.

The driver, reacting instinctively, forcefully turned the steering wheel in the opposite direction in an attempt to prevent the violent deviation. The result was that her vehicle collided with another car coming from the opposite direction, causing material damage to its mirror.

According to the same source, the 45-year-old continued his dangerous actions, trying to control the car and press the pedals, but failed, as the engine stalled. He then got out of the car and, shortly after, while driving his own vehicle, went off course and ended up in a ravine about 60 meters deep.

The man was found injured and taken to the hospital, and according to the same sources, a strong smell of alcohol was detected. He is now hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic, and a case file has been opened against him for attempted murder, dangerous driving, and domestic violence.

The case is still under investigation by the authorities, who are examining the exact causes and circumstances of the incident, which could have led to the loss of human lives, including that of a young child.
